Municipality of Leeuwarden and UPC Netherlands recently signed contracts for the construction of the UPC office in Leeuwarden. The design of sustainable office building (7800 m2 GLA) has been awarded a BREEAM Excellent provisional certificate, the second-highest rating for sustainable building in Europe. Wolter & Dros (a subsidiary TBI) works in construction teams with Van Wijnen Gorredijk and is considered responsible for the technical installations.
Construction will start in June 2010. The building for the 450 employees of UPC is expected to end 2011. Inspiration for the design of Architect Paul de Ruiter is that man is a perfect workplace. Sustainability of the building itself in the use of rainwater for flushing toilets. In addition, natural insulation rather than by planting a portion of the low roof and generates electricity by cells on the roof. Besides the mechanical and electrical installations, Wolter & Dros responsible for energy management and the use of various renewable energy systems such as air conditioning, heat / cold storage in the soil, PV cells, ceiling heating and cooling.
